Virginia Beach, VA - Helen “Doris” Coggin, 72, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, October 15, 2011, at Norfolk General Hospital, Norfolk, VA. Born on January 9, 1939, in Okolona, MS, she was a daughter of the late Houston Harold and Lena Mae Gray Strawhorn.
Doris was a graduate of Houston High School. Retiring in 1989, to stay at home and take care of her family, she had worked as an administrative assistant. With her faith and family being of most importance to her, Doris grew up Baptist and was a God-fearing true believer in Christ. A most loving, caring, feisty and selfless person she always put others first. With her kind and gentle spirit, Doris stressed the importance of family and friends staying together by holding onto faith, hope and honor. She was a firm believer that everyone can make a difference if they trust in God, love one another, always tell the truth and display kindness, compassion and righteous morals.
Those left to cherish her memory are her loving and devoted husband of 52 years, Felix B. Coggin, Jr.; her number 1 daughter and constant companion Theresa Coggin; her number 2 daughter and soulmate Angelia Coggin; and her granddaughter whom she “loved more” Holly Michelle Coggin Pallett and husband Clay, all residing in Virginia Beach; sisters Sue Adams of Amory, Eva Mae Hatcher and husband Johnny of Wren; brother Harold Strawhorn and wife Rose of Amory; sister-in-law Glenda Coggin of Nettleton; brothers-in-law Buddy Coggin and wife Suzanne and Jimmy Coggin and wife Sue of Nettleton; and several nieces, nephews and close friends.
