Smithville – Hazel Sheffield Noe, 80, died on May 4, 2011, at North Mississippi Medical Center, Tupelo. Born on June 16, 1930, in Smithville, she was a daughter of the late James “Carlos” and Ovie Holloway Sullivan.
Mrs. Noe attended Smithville Schools. For more than 30 years, she was a seamstress with area garment plants in Smithville, Fulton and Amory. A woman of faith, Mrs. Noe was an active member of Pearce Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school, Church Training classes, and worked in the nursery. Always helping others, she loved to cook, enjoyed listening to the Gaithers, made quilts and blankets, enjoyed flower gardening, and growing and canning tomatoes and peas.
She is survived by her sons, Arlon Sheffield and wife, Susan, Jacksonville, AL, and Burt Sheffield and wife, Melissa, Smithville; sisters, Opalean Murphy, Amory, Eloise Lindsey, Amory, Reba Turner, Smithville, Mildred Culiverhouse, and Lara Jean Wheeler, both of Fulton; brother, James “Buddy” Sulllivan, Amory; grandchildren, Josh, Lori, Jason, Brandy, Valara, Kacey, Sarah, Lindsey, and Caroline; great-grandchildren, Katie, Emily, Lane, Madison, Alex and Lilly; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Bealle “Bill” Sheffield and Hurston Samuel “Barn” Noe; step-daughter, Ginger D. “Gin” Leech; step-son, Johnny Noe; and sister, Vernie Sullivan.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 PM, Friday, May 6, 2011, at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home in Amory with Bro. Van Dale Hudson officiating. Burial will follow in Haughton Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.
Visitation will be from Noon until the service hour on Friday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Peace Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, 60174 Pearce Chapel Rd., Smithville, MS 38870, or to the Smithville Disaster Relief Fund, c/o First Baptist Church, P. O. Box 540, Amory, MS 38821.
