Hassie Mae Gaines

Amory - Hassie D. Gaines, 97, died Thursday, December 17, 2015 at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. She was born June 13, 1918 in Union County, MS, the daughter of Allen Joseph and Mattie Mae Allen Downs.
Mrs. Gaines attended school in Union County. On April 13, 1941, Mrs. Gaines married the love of her life, William Robert Gaines. She worked for Wilson Manufacturing as a seamstress for 20 years. She was known as a quiet and reserved lady who was very sweet and enjoyed babysitting and being around children to whom she was devoted. Her favorite hobbies included doing puzzle books and sewing dresses. She was a member of East Amory Baptist Church.
She is survived by her daughter in law, Jewel Gaines, Flora, MS, her grandchildren, Robert Ritter, Amory; Eddy Gaines (Becky), Flora, MS; Robert Gaines (Sherry), Flora, MS; and Sarah Gaines, Flora, MS, and 11 great- grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Robert Gaines; two daughters, Willie Jean Ritter and Flora Lemmons; one son Charles Gaines; and her siblings.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1 PM, Sunday, December 20, 2015 at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home with Bro. Roger Akers officiating. Burial will follow at Liberty Cemetery in New Albany. Pallbearers will be Adam and Russell Gaines, Bobby and Eric Boydstun, Justin Hughes, and Thomas Ritter.
Visitation will be Saturday, December 19, 2015 from 5 PM until 8 PM at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home in Amory.
