Pontotoc –Harriet Nabors McCord, 75, passed away on Saturday, January 24, 2015, at Sanctuary Hospice in Tupelo. Born on January 10, 1940, in Smithville, she was a daughter of the late Fred Winfield and Aura Sumerford Nabors.
Mrs. McCord was a graduate of Smithville High School and went on to receive her Graduate Degree from Mississippi College and a Master’s Degree in Education from Ole Miss. She married Howard McCord in 1983. Enjoying people and working with the public, Mrs. McCord was a dedicated teacher for the Amory School System and she also taught in Boone, NC. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church, Pontotoc. Her friends and Bible studies were the joys of her life and when she was unable to attend church she would watch the services on TV. She also loved to travel with her closest friends, Jeanne Watson, Willen leech, Gail Ford, Andy Carroll and Brenda Burks. Mrs. McCord touched many lives as she taught for many years.
Survivors include her step-daughter, Cindy Tutor, Pontotoc and Step-Son, Randy McCord (Brenda); sister, Marie Wiggins, Tupelo; Step-Grandsons, Cord Tutor, Pontotoc, Allen, Rocky and Lee McCord; Step-Granddaughter, Tara James; nieces, Cyndi Wood and Susan Harlow; nephews, Rick Wiggins and Fred Nabors.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Howard McCord and brother Thomas Nabors.
A Funeral Service will be held at 3 PM, Wednesday, January 28 at Smithville Baptist Church with Bro. Ken Hester and Bro. Wes White officiating. Burial will follow in Young Memorial Garden. Pallbearers will be Bob McCord, Rick Wiggins, Russ Nabors, Caleb James, Fred Nabors, and Cord Tutor.
Visitation will be from 1- 2:50 PM, Wednesday at the church.
