Amory- Harold “Sonny” Holloway, SR., 75, died Sunday, January 26, 2014 at NMMC in Tupelo. Born February 20, 1938 in Amory, he was the son of John Alvis and Clara Ethel Carter Holloway. He married Patricia Gunter October 4, 1958.
A graduate of Itawamba Agriculture High School, he served his country in the Mississippi Army National Guard and was a member of First United Methodist Church. Since his childhood, he had a strong work ethic and was a hard worker. Beginning with a paper route as a young boy, he later founded and operated Holloway Trucking Company, Inc, United Ready Mix and Holloway Concrete. A devout and generous husband, father and grandfather, he enjoyed time with his family, being outdoors raising horses and cows, motor cross racing with his kids, quail hunting and boating at Pickwick. An avid rose and tomato gardener, he also raised chickens and quail, which he was often found sharing with his many friends.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Patricia “Pat” Holloway; daughter, Heidi Lynn Kane (Michael), Amory; sons, Harold A. “Hal” Holloway, Jr., Amory and Patrick Clark Holloway (Kimberly), Amory; sisters, Thera Comer (Frank), Amory and Helen Moore (L.C.), Birmingham, AL; grandchildren, Jonathan Holloway (Natalie), Memphis, Michael Holloway (Erin), Saltillo, Layne Holloway, Amory, Hanna Brook Monaghan, Tucson, AZ, Kayla Kane, Amory and Suni Holloway, Amory; great grand children, Emma Claire Holloway, Saltillo and the twins (boys predicted by Sonny) that are expected in July.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2pm, Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home in Amory with Jonathan Holloway and Rev. Jimmy Criddle officiating. Burial will follow in Hatley Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jonathan, Michael and Layne Holloway, Michael Kane, John and Ronnie Comer.
Visitation will be from 10am until 1:45pm, prior to the service on Wednesday.
