Harlan Prestridge

Amory – Harlan Leamon Prestridge, 91, peacefully finished his time here on earth and began his new life in Heaven on Friday, December 1, 2023. He was born on July 12, 1932 in Smithville, Mississippi to the late Ollie Leamon Prestridge and Audra Wynona Cox Prestridge.

At a young age, his family moved to Louisiana and he graduated from Neville High School in Monroe, Louisiana. He then went on to further his education at Northeast Louisiana University where he obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. A hard working people person, with a great sense of humor, Harlan started a Chrysler Dealership in Rayville, Louisiana. He ran a successful business for many years and he was involved in his community. He served as the Commissioner of Finance and Utilities in Monroe, Louisiana.

Then he and his family moved back home to Amory, Mississippi. Harlan was appointed the Director of the Amory North Monroe Chamber of Commerce. He was also a member of the Rotary and was honored with the Paul Harris Fellow Award. In addition to all his service to his community, he gave the ultimate service to our country as a proud patriot in the United States Army Reserves where he held rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

When he was young, he met his soulmate, Peggy Furr and they were married on December 27, 1963. They shared so many wonderful years together as their family grew. God blessed them with two daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Harlan loved God and was a member of First Baptist Church. He enjoyed Gospel music and made many friendships through the years at church. In his downtime he liked to collect coins and just be with his friends and family. Harlan accomplished many things in his lifetime yet his family gave him the most pride and they will all miss him dearly.

The memories, wisdom, and guidance given by Harlan will be cherished forever by his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy Furr Prestridge, Amory; daughters, Mary Johnson (Steve), Amory, and Sherri Cadden (Carl); grandchildren, Brittney Barber (Zach) and Andin Johnson; step-grandchildren, Blake Cadden (Caitlin) and Kelsey Cadden; great-grandchildren, Brody and Blaine Barber; step-great-grandchildren, Katherine and Brooks Cadden.
