Amory
Hal Gene Young, 82, died on Sunday, July 22, 2012 at the Oak Tree Plantation in Amory. Born July 18, 1930, he was a son of the late Gene Young and Maggie Carroll Young Vanoven. A graduate of Smithville High School, he was also a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He worked in the garment industry and retired from Amory Garment Co. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and was a member of the Amory Church of Christ.
Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at the Smithville Cemetery with Minister Philip Hathcock officiating. E.E. Pickle Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Pallbearers will be Jacob Young, Cody Young, Steve Young, Gary Young, Chris Downey, and Gabe Young.
Survivors include one sister, Hilda Downey of St. Louis, MO; one brother, Jimmy Doyle Young (Mary Jo) of Amory; nieces and nephews, Debbie Newsom, Gary Doyle Young, Steve Young, and Chris Downey.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will continue until 9:30 on Tuesday at the funeral home to go in procession to the cemetery.
