Gwendola Katherine Smith

Nettleton – Gwendola Katherine Bullard Smith, 82, became totally healed and was reunited with her husband and family on Sunday, July 16, 2023. She was born on July 25, 1940, to the late Clarence Jefferson Bullard and Mollie “Omie” Cook Bullard in Itawamba County, Mississippi

Gwendola grew up in Itawamba County, Mississippi with one sister and they attended New Salem School. A young lady with a hard work ethic, Gwendola went to work at an early age as a seamstress at both the Amory Garment Factory and Bluebell factory. Later, she worked at Aircap Manufacturing in Tupelo, MS. She married the love of her life, Ariol “Sonny” Smith and together they were blessed with five children. Her family meant the world to her and she was most proud of what they had become in life. Often times, she would joke with her family when asking for a little help, by starting off the request with a simple “I am going to let you…..” She was outgoing, caring and of the Baptist faith. Gwendola believed in God and His saving grace and she enjoyed listening to old time gospels.

In her downtime, she liked all things that had to do with history. She loved studying genealogy records, especially with her close friend Linda Barrett and attending auctions to see what new treasured antiques were coming available. Gwendola appreciated the great outdoors and camping with her family was also a favorite past time of hers. She was talented, dabbled in crafts, but most of her greatest work and contribution to her family, in addition to her love and wisdom, was the research she had done of their family history.

There is no doubt she is celebrating with Jesus, healed, and starting her new life in Heaven. Her friends and family will miss her dearly. Until we meet again Gwendola.

She is survived by her daughters, Janet Holley, Amory, and Susan Kennedy (Dwight), Amory; son, Jerry Smith, Nettleton, MS; grandchildren, Chris Smith, Brittany Smith Tubbs, Dann Haynes, Lee Haynes, Bridget Haynes, Vanessa Kennedy Shurden, Jessica Kennedy Dodd, Jennifer Kennedy Hooks, Valerie Kennedy Yant; great-grandchildren, Aubrey Tubbs, Donivan Tubbs, Elijah Haynes, Eva Haynes, Lynlee Haynes, Parker Haynes, Max Dodd, Amelia Dodd, Jackson Hooks, Jordan Hooks, Zoey Kennedy, Bejay Yant, Tylar Hester; nieces and nephews, Gary Lyle (Renae), Melinda Hancock Mayner (Michael); special friends, Linda Barrett and Juanita Dean.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ariol “Sonny” Smith; sons, Sammie Morris Smith and Danny Joe Smith; sister, Willie Velera Bullard Lyle; nieces, Marsh Lyle Jones and Sheila Lyle Hancock; nephews, Steve Lyle and Ronald “Ronnie” Lyle.
