Douglasville, GA—Greely Raymond Hensley, 94, died on Saturday, November 23, 2013 in Villa Rica, GA. Born May 1, 1919 in Smithville he was the son of Alvin and Nora Hensley.
He married Barbara Ruth Tubb on January 15, 1946. He farmed cotton, soybeans, and watermelons and enjoyed vegetable gardening. He later worked in the area garment factories in Amory, Hatley, and Sulligent. A believer in God he was a faithful member of the New Hope Primitive Baptist Church in Hatley. He enjoyed being out on his tractor, bird watching, and playing his electric organ before his hearing failed. His greatest joy was spending time with his family especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life Service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at the New Hope Primitive Baptist Church in Hatley with Elder Tim Cunningham officiating. Burial will be in the Hatley Cemetery. E.E. Pickle Funeral Home of Amory is in charge of the arrangements.
He is survived by one daughter, Donna Gelineau (Dan) of Douglasville, GA; three grandchildren, Michelle Thompson (Chris), Jennifer Oller (Drew), and Renee Lutz; 5 great grandchildren, Lindsey Gelineau, Reagan Oller, Caydence Thompson, Dilyn Lutz, and Mason Lutz; nieces and nephews, Alvin Sims, Jerry Simms, Larry Sims, and Barbara Weeden; and special friend, Mavis Parham.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Barbara Hensley; one sister, Neomie Sims; brother, Neeley Hensley, niece, Mary Ellen Sims; and a nephew, Grady Sims.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday evening and will continue until 10:45 a.m. at the funeral home.
