Amory – Grady Oliver Thompson, 93, died on Thursday, March 22, 2012, at Golden Living Center. Born on May 16, 1918, in Monroe County, he was a son of the late John Wesley and Carrie Orene Ball Thompson.
Mr. Thompson attended Greenwood Springs School. On February 21, 1938, he married Mary Louise Kimbrough. Mr. Thompson had worked as a pallet builder with Puckett Lumber Company before working as a pipe bender with Walker Manufacturing. He was a member of Rocky Springs Baptist Church. Outgoing and living life to the fullest, Mr. Thompson enjoyed being outdoors, fishing, gardening, and Gospel and Country music.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, March 24 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home with Bro. Tommy Whaley and Bro. Robert E. Fowlkes officiating. Burial will follow in Durrett Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Steve and Corey Ponder, Bill Tate, Corey Howard, Greg Edwards, and Jimmy Adams.
Visitation will be from 5 – 8 PM, Friday at the funeral home.
He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Mary Louise Kimbrough Thompson, Amory; son, Phillip Thompson, Athens-Quincy Community; sisters, Sue Lindsey (Ray), Hatley and Ruth Thompson, Athens-Quincy Community; brother, J. C. Thompson (Evelyn), Athens-Quincy Community; 8 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; special friend, Hazel Upton; and many special friends in the Athens-Quincy Community.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Grady Ray and Donald Eugene Thompson; grandson, Micheal Timothy Thompson; a sister; and 4 brothers.
