Amory – Grace Hodges McFarling, 95, passed away on Thursday, April 20, 2017, at Oak Tree Manor. Born on November 22, 1921, in Springville, MS, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Clifton and Willie Tunnell Hodges.

Grace grew up in a large family and was the youngest of six siblings. She was a graduate of Amory High School, Class of 1939. She married James Hobson in 1941, who died in 1947. During World War II, she worked on the Ration Board. On November 6, 1949, Grace married Oscar Thomas “Mac” McFarling. Together, they had a son and a daughter. A devoted wife and mother who loved her family, she was a homemaker then she worked for Glenn Mfg., Hodges Company, and Black’s. Grace retired in 1985. She was also former member of the Home Demonstration Club.

A lady of strong faith, she was a member of First Baptist Church, Amory, where she taught GA’s and Acteens. Loving, patient, very kind and always placing others first, Grace had a great influence as an adopted grandparent in the church’s mentoring youth program. She was also involved with the Triple L ladies group. Grace enjoyed traveling, being outside working in the herb and flower gardens, cooking and sewing. She was passionate about reaching out to others with her card ministry. Energetic and always active, Grace enjoyed the fitness center and her PACE class. An avid reader, she loved Christian romance novels and sharing her books with others. Grace loved Big Band music and her favorite song was “Sentimental Journey.”

Survivors include her daughter, Sara Cork, Northport, AL; daughter-in-law, Judy McFarling, Amory; grandchildren, Paul Barton McFarling (Jill), Garnet, SC; Keri Pickle (Josh), Amory; great-grandchildren, Asher Grace and Adlea Mac Pickle, Amory; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, James Hobson and “Mac” McFarling; a son, Paul H. McFarling; sisters, Madrid Tutor, Myrtle Cain; brothers, Eugene Hodges, Floyd Hodges, and Flake Hodges.

Her Funeral Service will be at 2 PM, Saturday, April 22 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory, with Dr. Allen Simpson and Bro. Jimmy McFatter officiating. Burial will be in Masonic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Andy Love; Tom Crook; Brian and David McCullen; Josh Pickle; Tommy Hodges; Robert Andrews. Honorary pallbearers will be the staff and residents of Oak Tree Manor.
