Amory – Gordon R. “Big O” Ostrowski, 71, passed away on Saturday, October 24, 2015, at NMMC, Tupelo. Born on May 27, 1944, in Chicago, IL, he was a son of the late Chester Raymond and Mildred Margaret “Millie” Tuma Ostrowski.
“Big O” attended New Albany and Amory Schools. On November 2, 1979, he married Janet Leigh Burroughs. In his earlier years, he worked in the furniture industry. A dedicated and loyal employee, “Big O” retired as a Chemical Plant Storekeeper from Georgia Gulf Chemical in 2003 after 32 years, 3 months, and 2 days. “Big O” was a member of United Steel Workers of America. He was a member of Gregory Chapel Baptist Church. Loving, grateful, and appreciative, he cherished his wife, children, grandchildren, and his dogs, Peaches and Bandit. With his friends and coworkers, they enjoyed socializing, cookouts, and laughing while cracking jokes and spending time together. A very kind gentleman with a big heart, “Big O” picked buttercups for his wife, Jan, and was a passionate supporter of Meals on Wheels. An outdoorsman, he was a deer hunter, fisherman, and an avid hummingbird watcher. “Big O” enjoyed watching baseball, playing cards, shooting pool, walking, swimming, and going to the casino. His favorite music was Rock-n-Roll.
Survivors include his wife, best friend, and soulmate, Jan Ostrowski, Amory; daughters, Ginger Ostrowski and Alice Ostrowski Casey of Amory; sons, Russell Ostrowski (Beth), Saltillo, and Stanley Ostrowski (Melissa), Aberdeen; grandchildren, Taylor, Ragan, Stan, Millie, Olivia, and Luke Ostrowski; Skylar and Russell Casey; great-granddaughter, Ariana Lee; sister, Susan O. Williams, Meridian; brother-in-law, Van Burroughs (Sandra), Wren; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Dick Roberts, Johnny Moon, Daniel Householder, Archie Osborn, Harold and Janet Williams, and many friends at Georgia Gulf/Axiall.
His Funeral Service will be held at 3 PM, Tuesday, October 27, 2015, at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory, with Bro. Robert E. Fowlkes officiating. Burial will follow in Masonic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bobby Camp, Travis Williams, Johnny Moon, Daniel Householder, Billy K. Thompson, and Ken Randolph. Honorary pallbearer will be Dick Roberts.
Visitation will be from 1 PM – 2:50 PM, Tuesday, at the funeral home.
