Smithville – Gordon M. “Four By” Ford, 66, passed away on Tuesday, October 6, 2015, at Sanctuary Hospice House, Tupelo. Born on March 24, 1949, in Itawamba County, he was a son of the late Omar Emory and Velma Rea Plunkett Ford.
Gordon attended Itawamba County Schools. He honorably served in the US Army during Vietnam and was a Purple Heart recipient. On May 14, 1971, Gordon married the love of his life, Mary Ann Tartt. Working for True Temper Sports, he retired after 24 years of service. Gordon was of the Holiness faith. He was proud of owning his own home and land. With life guided by his love for his wife, Gordon enjoyed fishing, hunting, and listening to Country music. He was a life member of the DAV, a life member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, a life member of the VFW, and a life member of the VVA. Gordon was passionate about Veterans’ affairs.
Survivors include his wife and best friend of 44 years, Mary Ann Ford, Smithville; sister, Minnie Lou Hamilton, Martin, TN; brothers, Leland Ford and John Ford of Smithville; and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Mildred Crane and Annette Pope; and brothers, William and Charles Ford.
His Funeral Service will be held at 1 PM, Friday, October 9, 2015, at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory, with Bro. Mike Todd officiating. Burial will follow in James Creek Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Brandon Sloan, Richard Culver, Timmy Tartt, Charley Tartt, Marty Lyle, Chris Harris, and Rueben Hamilton, Jr.
Visitation will be from 5 – 8 PM, Thursday, at the funeral home.
