Elizabethtown, KY – Gloria Faye “Sis” Perkins Flye, 83, passed away on Monday, January 25, 2016 at Hardin Memorial Hospital, Elizabethtown, KY. Born on August 20, 1932, in Itawamba County, she was a daughter of the late Dred Sykes and Naoma True Love Perkins.
Sis attended school in New Salem and later graduated from Itawamba High School. Initially, she worked at Nash Motor in Kenosha, Wisconsin and at Charm Step Shoes. In 1975, she married Bobby Joe Flye. Together they made a home in Sterling, Illinois. Later in life, she furthered her education and received a certification as a Licensed Practicing Nurse (LPN). Sis retired as an LPN and she worked in the Tupelo area. In 2014, she moved to Elizabethtown, KY to live with her daughter and youngest granddaughter.
She was of the Baptist Faith and she loved her family. Sis really enjoyed spending time with Grandchildren and gardening. Watching her flowers grow gave her much joy. Some of her other favorite past times were sewing, cross stitching, crocheting, and doing crossword puzzles. Gloria and her husband enjoyed going out to eat and spending precious time together. Her fury friends, Cleo and Mona, were wonderful companions to her later in her life. Sis was true country woman who enjoyed country music and being outdoors.
She is survived by her daughter, Donna F. Crouch Thompson, Elizabethtown, KY; grandchildren, Sheena Thompson, Athens, AL, Chris Thompson, Studio City, CA, Skyler Thompson, Elizabethtown, KY; great-grandchildren, Hayden & Holden McGaugh; Kai Thompson; sister, Janice Coker (B.J.), Smithville; brother, Nathan “Buster” Perkins (Jeanette), Fulton; a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Flye; brothers, Bonnie O’Neal Perkins, Leroy Sykes Perkins, Leon “Pete” Perkins, Meridith Lee “Buck” Perkin; sisters, Madie Berniece Gray, Mary Avonelle Hodushault, Sue Kate Thompson, and Geneva Kathleen Franklin; step-mother, Callie Weaver Perkins.
Her Funeral Service will be held at 1 PM, Friday, January 29, 2016, at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Smithville, with Bro. Charles Coggins officiating. Burial will follow in the New Salem Cemetery, Itawamba County.
Visitation will be from 11 – 12:50 PM, Friday, at the funeral home in Smithville.
