Amory - Glenn Wesley Tackett, 82, passed away on Friday, November 11, 2016, at his residence. Born on February 3, 1934, in Shannon, MS, he was a son of the late Rufus Albert and Mattie Box Tackett.
Glenn attended Amory, Becker and Smithville Schools. On September 10, 1955, he married the love-of-his-life, Joann Burleson and they were blessed with two children. Glenn’s selflessly dedicated his life to serving and protecting the public. He served in the US Army and US Army National Guard. From 1969 – 1994, he was a police dispatcher for Amory Police Department. A very dedicated man, Glenn loved and provided for his family. A Christian, he was a member of Apostolic Truth Tabernacle, Amory.
One who loved music, Glenn was a gifted steel guitar player and enjoyed traveling all over the Country performing with Gospel groups. He was a member of DAV, Blue Blazer, American Legion Post 25 and a past Mason.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Joann B. Tackett, Amory; daughters, Valessa Randolph and Melinda Aldridge (Steve) of Amory; brother, Wayne Tackett (Helen), Smithville; grandchildren, Chris and Dewayne Randolph; Nikki Ball, Haley Aldridge and Susan Aldridge; 6 great-grandchildren; 3 nieces and 1 nephew; special friends, Benjamin Smith, Danny Lyles and others who played music together.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Maxine Chism.
His Funeral Service will be at 11 AM, Monday, November 14 at Apostolic Truth Tabernacle, Amory, with Pastor Charles Petty and Pastor John Ward officiating. Burial will follow in Haughton Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Steve Chism, Steve Hunt, Raymond Whitworth, Ricky Barnett, Drew Randolph and Jimmy Fulton.
Visitation will be from 5 – 8 PM, Sunday at the church.
