Amory – Willie Glenn Howell, Jr., 65, passed away on Friday, July 15, 2016 at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, Mississippi. Born on December 22, 1950, he was the son of Mrs. Maurine Howell and the late Willie Glenn Howell, Sr.
Glenn graduated from Aberdeen High School, attended Itawamba Community College and received an accounting degree at Missisippi State University. On December 5, 1976, he married Sarah Morgan Howell. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Amory and had been a member of the First Baptist Church of Aberdeen. At both churches, he served as a Deacon, Sunday School teacher and church treasurer. He was the Aberdeen City Comptroller from 1978-2009. He then became Amory’s City Clerk from 2009-2011.
In his spare time, he enjoyed reading mysteries and Biblical studies, puzzles, genealogy, and singing in the church choir. The time he spent with his grandchildren was most precious to him.
Survivors include his wife, Sarah Morgan Howell; son: Joseph Morgan Howell (Tressie), Daphne, Alabama; mother: Maurine West Howell, Athens; Sister: Peggy Howell Baggett (Wayne), Decatur, AL; Grandchildren: Adley Morgan Howell and Trewett Thayer Howell; Niece and Nephew: Emily Leigh Baggett, Jeremy Wayne Baggett; Great Nephew: Elijah Allen Prater; Aunts: Joyce West Doster and Shelby West Westbrook.
He was preceded in death by his father.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, July 18, 2016 at EE. Pickle Funeral Home Chapel in Amory. Dr. Allen Simpson will be officiating. Burial will follow at Masonic Cemetery, Amory. Pallbearers will be: Dale Pierce, Tommy Tapp, Steve Greenhaw, Tim Pace, Shelby Carter and Mike Tyree.
Visitation will be from 5-8 PM on Sunday, July 17, 2016 at the funeral home.
