Aberdeen - Gladys Francis Gallop Jackson, 85, died on Saturday, May 9, 2015, at NMMC in Tupelo. She was born August 16, 1929, to Walter Green and Bessie Bowen Gallop.

Mrs. Jackson was a graduate of Wren School. She married Malone Jackson and was an active member of First Christian Church.

Mrs. Jackson was president of the Mississippi Federation of Women’s Clubs from 1984-1986. Under her leadership, the organization took an active part in the support of the Mississippi State Hospital. One of the major projects she completed while president was the creation of the Shadow Oak campground for the patients. She was a charter member of the Friends of the Mississippi State Hospital and served as its first president. She continued her active participation with this group until recently, having served as the chair for the yearly FMSH Legislative Breakfast for several years.

Mrs. Jackson was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and also belonged to the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a member of the Home and Garden Club of Aberdeen.

Known as a mover-and-shaker who got things done, she served a five-year term on the Mississippi Library Commission. Mrs. Jackson was the first woman to serve as County Supervisor in Rankin County and was also the first woman to serve on the Aberdeen Housing Authority Board. Having a love for and a great knowledge of politics, Mrs. Jackson was a very active Republican in Jackson politics and was often sought after for her advice from folks who were interested in running for various local, county, and state offices.

She was a member of Keep Mississippi Beautiful and served as the chairman for Keep Monroe County Beautiful. A member of the Master Gardener Program, Mrs. Jackson loved working in her flowers and gardening.

She is survived by her husband, Malone Jackson of Aberdeen; daughters, Adelia Ann “Dee” Cooper (Lee) and Teresa Jean Walker, Aberdeen, and Linda Husbands (Danny), Pearl; sons, Walter Smith (Cheryl), Aberdeen and Larry Jackson (Canda), Pearl; and a sister, Mary Green Gallop Herndon (Billy), Aberdeen.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Donald Jackson and sisters, Jean Gallop Herndon and Louise Gallop Mooney.

A Graveside Service will be held at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, May 12, at Wren Cemetery with Brother Todd Bowen officiating. Pallbearers will be Brad Walker, Dick Kline, Buddy Preston, Ray Clark, Phil Herndon, and Bill Herndon. Honorary pallbearers will be Trey Clark, Rick Herndon, Matthew Jackson, Peyton Jackson, and Benjamin Husbands.

Visitation will be from 5 – 7 PM, Monday at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory. Everyone is asked to meet at the funeral home at 9:30 AM, Tuesday to go in procession to the cemetery.
