Amory, Miss.—Gladys Cavender Gilliland, 88, died on Friday, November 15, 2013 at the River Place Nursing Center in Amory. Born May 10, 1925 in Monroe County, she was a daughter of Lewis O. and Mary Key Cavender.
She married Burlie Gilliland in 1942 and she worked as an inspector in the garment industry. She was a member of the Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church and she enjoyed shopping, travel, and country music especially Clint Black.
A Stateroom service will be 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, November 17, 2013 at the E.E. Pickle Funeral Home with Bobby Cleveland officiating. Burial will be in the New Hope Cemetery.
Survivors include two daughters, Judy Gray (Larry) of Amory and Marilyn Elliot (Bob) of Wetumpka, AL; one sister, Virginia Benton of Amory; one brother, Tony Cavender (Polly) of Amory; 4 grandchildren, Crystalyn Leech (Jon), Ashley Gray, Tracey DuBose (Jamey) and Scott Elliot; 8 great grandchildren, Tory (Murff), Hunter (Renee), Anastasia, Brandon, Lance, Austin, Mason, and Riley; and one great great grandchild, Peyton.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 60 years; 6 brothers, Lewis, Andy, Amos, Clovis, Ted, and Rick; one sister, Geneva; and a grandson, Dan Gray.
Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
Visitation will continue until service time on Sunday at the funeral home.
