Amory – Gladys Wright Cantrell, 101, died on Sunday, March 4, 2012, at River Place Nursing Center. Born on June 5, 1910, in Vernon, AL, she was a daughter of the late William Robert and Sara Margaret Robertson Wright.
She married Brack C. Cantrell on November 9, 1926. A loving, giving, and unselfish lady, Mrs. Cantrell was a homemaker. Strong in her faith, she was a member of Christian Missionary Alliance Church. Always seeing the best in others and making everyone feel special, Mrs. Cantrell was a mother to many. Enjoying being with her family, she always looked forward to cooking for family gatherings.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1 PM, Tuesday, March 6 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home with Bro. Garfield Powell and Mr. Jack Price officiating. Burial will follow in Masonic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jack Price, Larry Cantrell, Jackie Duke, Ricky Johnston, Brandon Price, Mark Duke, Justin Duke, Matthew Duke, Dickie Cantrell, and Kyle Watts. Honorary pallbearers will be J. T. and Bernice Wright.
Visitation will be from 5 – 8 PM, Monday at the funeral home.
She is survived by her daughters, Vivian (Elmo) Duke, Amory and Ann (Buster) Ros, Cullman, AL; grandchildren, Roger Cantrell, Hueytown, AL, Ronald J. (Gretta) Duke, Jasper, Terry (Susan) Duke, Amory, Sharon (Jack) Price, Hueytown, AL, Shelia (Ricky) Johnston, Smithville, Rob Lowery, Cullman, AL, and Carol Ann Lowery, Huntsville, AL; great-grandchildren, Tracy (John) Hill, Mark (Heidi) Duke, Rebecca (Chris) Henry, Fran (Eric) Glascock, Madison Watts, Kyle Watts, Brandon (Julie) Price, Angela (Shaun) Whitt, Keri Parham, Mallory Johnston, Matthew (Leslie) Duke, Justin (Loren) Duke, Elizabeth McAfee, Shelly (Gary) Pierce, and Staci (Ryan) Loomis; a host of great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 74 years, Brack C. Cantrell, and sons, John Robert (Jewel) Cantrell and Jimmy (Jackie) Cantrell.
Memorials may be given in honor of Micah Duke who is a patient at St. Jude to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
