Smithville—Gerald Daniel Rollins, 74, died on Sunday, January 6, 2013 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital Golden Triangle in Columbus. Born July 19, 1938 in Birmingham, Ala., he was the son of the late Carl Daniel and Mary Foshee Rollins. He married Shirley Jean Thompson in 1963; she died in 1999. He was a graduate of Birmingham schools and he enjoyed playing the guitar. He was a ham radio enthusiast and operated station W5KJQ. Before his retirement, he was a station engineer for Mississippi ETV. He was a U.S. Navy veteran.

A state room service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, January 10, 2012 at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home with Bro. James Austin officiating.

Survivors include one daughter, Wayla Hunter of Aberdeen; one son, Brian D. Rollins (April) of Smithville; 6 grandchildren, Melanie Bennett, Kaitlin Armstrong, Courtney Mills, Ashley Raper, Seth Rollins, and Summer Rollins; and 7 great grandchildren, Braylon, Wesley, Aliyah, Landon, Rayleigh, and Haley.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
