Amory - Gerald Scott Creely, 79, died Friday, October 23, 2015 at Riverview Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility in Greenwood. He was born on February 13, 1936, in Amory to Thelma Scott Creely and George Preston Creely.
Gerald graduated from Amory High School with the Class of 1954. He attended Mississippi State University and was a resident of Greenwood for 20 years. He worked occasionally in construction and various other jobs. Gerald was a loving son, brother, and uncle, in spite of his life-long battle with paranoid schizophrenia. Having a gentle and sweet spirit, he was an avid reader of his Bible. His personality was similar to the character, “Boo,” in "To Kill a Mockingbird." He never blamed God for his illness, never complained, and was never without his worn tattered Bible. Gerald enjoyed walking and drinking coffee. He liked listening to old time Country Preachers on the radio, especially one who preached in Houston. Gerald also loved listening to Gospel music and hymns. He had a loving family, many faithful classmates, friends, and acquaintances.
Survivors include a brother, Charles Preston Creely; a sister, Mary Nell Creely Dorris; nieces and nephews, Lowry David Dorris, Pamela Dorris Yarjan (Sev), Jeffrey Scott Dorris (Amy), Carol Dorris Boutot (Michael), Mike Creely (Gayle), Van Creely, Charlotte Creely, Roger Creely, Patty Creely Moore (Joe); many great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, George Thomas Creely; an infant sister, Martha Etoile Creely; brother-in-law, Hopson Dorris; sisters-in-law, Mary Worthy Creely, Loyce Nell Ross Creely, and Patsy Hawkins Creely; nephew, Tom Creely.
Services will be at 4:00 PM, Sunday, October 25, 2015, at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home in Amory with Pastors Jack Maroon, Hopson Boutot, and Michael Boutot officiating. Burial will follow in Harmony Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2:30 PM until the service hour on Sunday at the funeral home.
