Amory – Gerald Ray ‘Chirpy’ Cox, Jr., 53, died on Tuesday, October 23, 2012, in Amory. Born on April 10, 1959, in Amory, he was a son of the late Gerald Ray Cox, Sr., and Peggy Ann Wells Cox.
Chirpy was a graduate of Amory High School, Class of 1977. He was a self-employed carpenter and a member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church. Kind-hearted, Chirpy loved his children and especially enjoyed coaching his son’s baseball team. Having a big heart for his family and others, he was an avid MSU fan, who loved sports, hunting, going to the beach, and listening to Jimmy Buffett.
He is survived by his wife and children, Christy Grissom Cox, Emilie Claire Cox, and Austin Michael Cox, all of Amory; brother, Kenny Cox (Christina), Amory; and nieces and nephews, Cory and Will Cox, Amory; Clay and Chloe Grissom, Ackerman; and Cejay and Cash Grissom, Fulton.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 AM, Friday, October 26 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home with Rev. Tim Sisk officiating. Burial will follow in Masonic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bill Tate, Mike Kimmel, Will Cox, Cory Cox, Robert Grissom and Jon Grissom.
Visitation will be from 5 – 8 PM, Thursday at the funeral home.
The family requests, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Andrews United Methodist Church, PO Box 535, Amory, MS 38821.
