George Edward Burnett passed away on Sunday, October 13, 2019 at Tishomingo Manor Nursing Home in Iuka, Mississippi. He was born in Booneville, Mississippi on May 23, 1928 to Barney Walker Burnett and Mable Stubblefield Burnett.
George and his wife Cleta were married for 66 years; together they owned and operated B & B Dry Cleaners in Amory. After selling that business, he worked for his son George who was a building contractor, and jobs included shipping and maintenance in the furniture industry. At the age of 74, he retired the final time, from FFM in Amory. He cherished the FFM owners and his co-workers as well as the opportunity to continue working until his later years.
Although he didn’t have many hobbies, everyday tasks filled his life with pleasure. He enjoyed gardening and absolutely loved cutting grass and tending to his yard. Mr. George loved snow. He behaved like a kid his entire life when snow would fall. He enjoyed his last batch of snow-cream while living at the nursing home. Family gatherings, especially Christmas Eve, were the highlight of every year.
George and Cleta were faithful members of the Amory Church of Christ for many years. After they moved to Tishomingo County, they worshipped at the Iuka Church of Christ.
George was preceded in death by his wife, Cleta Faye Gray Burnett, his son George Walker Burnett and his only sibling Betty Ruth Burnett Blasingame.
He is survived by his daughters Carolyn Blaylock (Leslie), Dian Crawford, Grandchildren Casey Cantrell (Shannon), Evan Burnett (Manda), Alisha/BB Hoots(Van), Emily McWilliams (Drew), great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held on October 15, 2019 at 10:00 AM at Haughton Memorial Park with Brother Phillip Hathcock officiating. Pickle Funeral Home was entrusted with his burial.
