Geneva B. Thompson

Aberdeen- Geneva Baldwin Thompson, 85, died Monday, September 9, 2013 at Oak Tree Manor in Amory. Born June 12, 1928 in Smithville, she was the only child of the late Ebb R. and Lottie Jackson Baldwin. She married Cleveland D. Thompson June 1946.

Mrs. Thompson was born and raised in Smithville, was a graduate of Smithville High School class of 1946 and attended Smithville Baptist Church and Fellowship Baptist Church in Saltillo. She was also a member and past president of the VFW Post 4490 Ladies Auxiliary. Mrs. Thompson was one of the owners of Traceroad, Inc. the parent company of Traceroad Long Distance and the Smithville Telephone Company, serving until this week as a member of the Board of Directors and Vice-President for each company. She enjoyed reading every day, mostly western novels, and took as many “Sunday Drives” around northeast Mississippi as she could until her health failed. She cherished photos of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her son, Roger V. Thompson (Shellie), Smithville; grandchildren, Lenore Thompson, Smithville and Michelle Thompson (Ken Easton), San Diego, CA; great grandchildren, Michael, Geneva and Rose Easton; nephews, Stephen Thompson, Tupelo, James Thompson, Washington, D.C., John Thompson, Russia, John Thompson, Centennial, CO, Gloria Frederick, Winter, WI, Cheryl Wiltshire, Burlingtn, WI, and Lisa Thompson, Kenosha, WI.

In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by a special cousin, Corrine Jackson Stafford and nephew, Robert Thompson.

A Graveside Service honoring Geneva's life will be held at 10:30am, Friday, September 13, 2013 at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens, in Aberdeen, with Dr. Tom Cheatham officiating. Everyone is asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:20am. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
