Amory – Gene Earl, 66, died on Sunday, October 3, 2010, at his residence. Born on February 8, 1944, in Colorado Springs, CO, he was a son of Betty Graves Earl Sisson and the late Russell Earl.
Gene graduated from Amory High School, Class of 1962. He was a former member of the National Guard. After more than 33 years as a conductor, Gene retired from the job he loved with Burlington Northern/Santa Fe Railroad. He was a member of the BNSF Railroad Retirees. Very caring with a big heart, Gene enjoyed going to the beach, cooking, coin collecting, and working crossword puzzles. He was Baptist. Gene was an avid Ole Miss and Amory Panther football fan.
He is survived by his wife whom he married on January 16, 1998, Terri Earl, Amory; mother, Betty Sisson, Galesburg, IL; daughter, Gina (Jeff) Vorce, Tampa, FL; son, Lindley “Lee” Earl, Baltimore, MD; brother, Jimmy (Debbie) Earl, Galesburg, IL; and grandchildren, Hollie and Megan Vorce and Madison and Gavin Earl. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Bean.
A Funeral service for Gene Earl will be held at 3 PM, Thursday at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory with Bro. Roger Akers and Mr. Lloyd Minor officiating. Burial will follow in Masonic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be David Hill, Hayes Galloway, Bobby Clark, Bill Tate, John Loague, and Cory Bean. Honorary pallbearers will be employees of BNSF Railroad.
Visitation will be from 5 – 8 PM, Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be given to East Amory Baptist Church, 905 Hatley Rd., Amory, MS 38821.
