Gary Allen Phillips, 68 died at the Golden Living Center on July 4, 2016. Gary was born to the late John Edmond Phillips and Marlin Pierce Phillips on November 22, 1947 in Waukegan, Illinois. He was of the Methodist Faith who loved to watch over all he loved and willing to help everyone. He graduated from Smithville High School in 1965. He was employed by Smithville Schools for 15 years. He loved working for Mr. William “Bo” Stevens, the principal of Smithville as well as working with Lee Nails. Gary loved to watch football, enjoyed cookouts, listening to country music and could sit and talk for hours. His greatest accomplishment was raising his children and providing for his family.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Jane McCullar Phillips; his daughters: April (Brad) West of Gattman and Lori (Bruce) Benton of Smithville; his son: Matthew Shawn Phillips; a sister: Linda (Andy) Gosa of Smithville; Brothers: Dwight Phillips, Fulton, David Phillips and Mike Phillips of Smithville; Grandchildren: Gavin Reed, Brooke Reed, Katelyn Phillips, Austin Craig and Kamron Benton and a host of nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held on July 6, 2016 at the Turon Cemetery beginning at 4:00 PM. Bro. Charles Coggins will be officiating. Visitation will be from 1:30 – 3:30 PM at E.E.Pickle Funeral Home in Smithville, MS.
Pallbearers will be Lee Nails, Bruce Benton.
