Amory – Freddie J. Howell, Sr., 96, died on Friday, June 7, 2013, at Gilmore Memorial Regional Medical Center. Born on November 25, 1916, in Athens, MS, he was a son of the late Perry and Pearl Hall Howell.
Mr. Howell married Dorothy A. Herren on May 25, 1942. He honorably served in the US Army in Europe during World War II and received the EAMETO, Good Conduct, and the WWII Victory medals and the Meritorious Unit award. Mr. Howell retired after 30 years of service with the Frisco Railroad. He was a member of Amory Church of Christ. With life revolving around his family, Mr. Howell enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, oil painting, and Country music.
He is survived by his daughter, Wanda M. Howell, Olive Branch; sons, Freddie J. Howell, Jr. (Ruby Jean), Cleveland, GA, and Randy P. Howell, Nettleton; grandchildren, Danny Howell, Cindy Howell, John Howell, Cliff Barnett, Nathan Howell, and Nicole Howell; 6 great-grandchildren; 2 great- great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by and his wife, Dorothy A. Howell; and his sisters and brothers.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 PM, Monday, June 10 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home with Mr. Philip Hathcock officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Howell Cemetery. Pallbearers will be family and friends.
Visitation will be from Noon until 1:50 PM on Monday at the funeral home.
