Smithville — Mrs. Frances Ruth Hicks, 83, passed away on May 1, 2016, at Golden Living Center. Born on June 16, 1932, in Carbon Hill Alabama, she was a daughter of the late John Chesley Hughes and Leota Wiginton Hughes. .
Ruth went to school at Greenwood Springs School. Frances was employed with various manufacturing companies as a seamstress and a press operator. She also worked at the Aberdeen Nursing Home and was employed by the Amory School District as a cafeteria worker. She married John L. Hicks on December, 16, 1979. Frances was of the Baptist faith. A caring and selfless servant, she had a heart of compassion for people. She was passionate about her children, grandchildren and her two dogs. She was a member of the Humane Society for many years. One of her favorite friends was Aline Hughes, who was like a sister to her.
Frances enjoyed family cookouts, fishing and going on vacations with her family. She liked listening to Gospel, Bluegrass and Country Music. Some of her favorite artists were Bill Monroe, Ernest Tubbs, Ricky Scaggs, the Inspirations, the Happy Goodman Family and the Gaither Vocal Band. She had a deep love for her family and a great smile for anyone she met. Her legacy will live on through her blessed family.
Survivors include her daughter Lisa Gazaway (Roger), Amory; two sons, David Richard West (Beverly), Fulton, William L. West (Vicky), Smithville; grandchildren, Cody Gazaway, Tupelo; Kristy Gazaway, Amory; Justin, Lauren and Brittany West, all of Amory; Will West, Smithville; Stacey (Brian) Pearson, Smithville; Dakota and Cheyanne West, both of Alabama; great-grandchildren, Keeley West, Liddy Kate Gazaway, Aubrey Pearson, Hunter West; sister, Betty Evans, Aberdeen; brother, Theron Hughes, Amory; nieces and nephews, Allen, Becky, Charlotte, and Jenny Hughes; Mike Evans.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband and best friend, John L. Hicks; brothers, John Leonard and Charles Hughes; half- brothers, James and George Hughes; half-sisters, Myrtle Cheetham; nephew, Johnny Evans.
Her Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM, Wednesday, May 4, 2016, at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home Chapel, Amory with Mr. David Highland. Burial will follow in Wren Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5:00 – 8:00, Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory.
