Greenwood Springs – Florence Lewis Prestridge, 91, died on Monday, June 20, 2011, at her residence. Born on September 16, 1919, in Greenwood Springs, she was a daughter of the late Grady and Jimmie Harris Lewis.
Mrs. Prestridge attended Aberdeen High School and married William Homer Prestridge on November 21, 1937. She was a homemaker and a caregiver, caring for her mom, dad, and mother-in-law. Mrs. Prestridge was a school bus driver for Monroe County Schools and lunch room manager for Greenwood Springs School. She was a member of Athens Baptist Church. Her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, were very important to her. A flower lover, she grew many different flowers and enjoyed sharing them with others. A virtuous woman who reared two families, Mrs. Prestridge enjoyed listening to Gospel music, especially quartets, watching Gospel Channel 39, working in her yard, and quilting.
She is survived by a daughter, Glenda P. (Doc) Taylor, Aberdeen; daughter-in-law, Ada Prestridge, Greenwood Springs; grandchildren, Nell (Sam) Grant, Greenwood Springs, Michelle (Gregg) Pearson, Corinth, Pam Sutton, Columbus, William Grady Prestridge, Greenwood Springs, Gary (Kim) Prestridge, Jr., Sardis, and Jimmy Prestridge, Amory; and many great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sons, Donnie Gerald Prestridge and Gary “Buddy” Prestridge.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 AM, Wednesday, June 22 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory with Bro. Dennis Sullivan officiating. Burial will follow in Wesley Chapel Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandson, great-grandsons and other family members. Honorary pallbearer will be Cletus B. Summerford.
Visitation will be from 5 – 8 PM, Tuesday at the funeral home.
