Amory – Fay C. Simmons, 88, passed away on Thursday, April 21, 2016, at Golden Living Center. Born on February 3, 1928, in Smithville, she was a daughter of the late James F. and Belma F. Brasfield Cox.
With her parents being school teachers, Fay started school at Brock School at the age of four. At age 16, she graduated from Smithville School. Fay worked part-time at Nabors Brothers, worked in the Smithville Garment Plant, and later worked for Dr. Tubb. She married the love of her life, Eustace Simmons on August 5, 1944 and together they were blessed with three children.
A caring and selfless servant, she had a heart of compassion for people. In her late 30’s, wanting to do more for people, she enrolled in IJC School of Nursing. Graduating with her LPN degree, she went to work at Gilmore Memorial Hospital. A very giving and dedicated nurse, she was passionate about her patients and enjoyed her work. Fay enjoyed working with her many special friends at the hospital and remained close to her nursing school friends.
Fay was a member of Pearce Chapel Free Will Baptist Church and she loved the Lord. She had a green thumb and enjoyed being outdoors working in her flower beds and garden. Fay liked listening to Gospel Music. She had a deep love for her family and a great smile for anyone she met. Her legacy will live on through her blessed family.
Survivors include her daughters, Diane Stevens (Doug), Smithville; Alicia Elliott (Victor), Amory; son, Kenny Simmons (Jan), Amory; grandchildren, Christi Williams (Ken), James Stevens (Sandi), Penny Boyett (Patrick), Ryan Simmons (Hope), Ley Elliott, Sara Beth Pearson (Brian),Jeremy Otts (Lesley), and Jaime Riddle (Drew); 20 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband and best friend, Eustace Simmons, and great-grandson, John Stevens.
Her Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, April 23, 2016, at Pearce Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, Smithville, with Pastor Van Dale Hudson and Pastor John Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Maxey Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ryan Simmons, Patrick Boyett, James Stevens, Hayden Williams, Ley Elliott, Ken Williams, and Brian Pearson. Honorary pallbearers will be her great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 9:30 – 10:50 AM, Saturday, at the church.
