Amory - Joel Everett Mitchell, 89, died on Tuesday, February 14, 2012, at NMMC, Pontotoc. Born on September 22, 1922, in Monroe County, he was a son of the late Arthur Willard and Daisy Etta Shields Mitchell.
Mr. Mitchell attended Hatley Schools. He honorably served in the US Army Air Corps in the European Theatre during World War II. Mr. Mitchell retired as a presser with Glenn Manufacturing. A longtime member of Hatley Missionary Baptist Church, he was a Deacon and served many years as the song director. Mr. Mitchell enjoyed listening to Gospel music.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3 PM, Friday, February 17 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home with Bro. Dean Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Masonic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Matthew Guntharp, Adam Guntharp, Blake Guntharp, Mitchell Wren , Kerry Mitchell, David Elmore, Ben Mobley, Paul Mobley, Chase Swift, Chad Posey, and Andrew Mitchell. Honorary pallbearers will be Deacons of Hatley Missionary Baptist Church.
Visitation will be from 5 – 8 PM, Thursday at the funeral home.
He is survived by his wife, Clytee Flynn Mitchell; daughters, Nancy (Tony) Swift, Melissa (Keith) Lindsey, and Krisha (Buddy) Mims; sons, Dennis (Debbie) Mitchell, Steve Flynn (Judy Paul); son-in-law, David Mobley; sister, Jimmie (Ed) Barnes; brothers, Donald Ray (Jean) Mitchell, Earnest (Willestine) Mitchell, Ellis (Annette) Mitchell, Herman (Dottie) Mitchell, and Jerry (Geraldine) Mitchell; grandchildren, Angie (Kerry) Mitchell, Mary Mitchell, Andrew Mitchell, Matthew Guntharp, Adam Guntharp, Blake Guntharp, Addie Grace Mims, Mitchell Wren, Lacy Kate Mims, Chad (Melanie) Posey, Chase (Cierra) Swift, Anna (Keith) Garner, Rachel (Randy) Davis, Kyann Flynn, Emily Flynn, Paul (Jennifer) Mobley, and Ben (Erika) Mobley; and great-grandchildren, Drew Hart and Aydan Mobley.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Barnes Mitchell; daughter, Patricia Ann Flynn Mobley; sisters, Dorothy Kern, Mattie Belle McCraw, Betty Poore, Evelyn DeLong, Mavis Christian, and Eunice Thornton Harmon; and brothers, Malcolm Mitchell, Foy Mitchell, Joice Mitchell, Hartsfold Mitchell, Austin Mitchell, Guy Mitchell, Wayne Mitchell, and Charles Mitchell.
