Amory – Evelyn Louise Montgomery Kennedy, 96, passed away on Monday, October 26, 2015, at Oak Tree Manor. Born on June 24, 1919, in Splunge, she was a daughter of the late John Gregg and Delonie Ellen Parham Montgomery.
Evelyn graduated with the Smithville class of 1937. She joined the Splunge Baptist Church at a young age. Later in life, she married Wilford H. Kennedy and together they raised a daughter. Evelyn had one of the most important jobs in society, she was a Homemaker. Their family moved to Birmingham and lived there for many years. Evelyn did work part-time for a while in a specialty dress shop in Birmingham. She had close friends there, whom she knew for over 30 years, Gail Fayet and Virginia Stanford. The most important thing to her in her life was being a wonderful mother and grandmother for her family. When she moved to Amory from Birmingham, she became a member of First Baptist Church. She was close to Mary Lib Francis and the other ladies in their Sunday School Class. Other dear friends to her were her neighbors, Sharon McDaniel, Betty Jones, and Betty Taylor. She was a beautiful seamstress who loved to sew for friends. She enjoyed cooking and singing with her grandkids and great-grandkids. She will be dearly missed by all that knew her.
Survivors include her daughter, Becky Marie Banks, Amory; grandchildren, Dianna Outlaw and David Banks; great-grandchildren, Shane Outlaw, Nikki Banks Thompson, and Renea Outlaw; great-great-granddaughter, Joanna Marie Thompson; niece, Ann Lusk; nephew, Lee Brasfield.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wilford H. Kennedy; sisters, Mae Montgomery and Nell Brasfield; and brother, Charles Montgomery.
Her Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM, Wednesday, October 28, 2015, at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory, with Dr. Allen Simpson and Bro. Jimmy McFatter officiating. Burial will follow in Masonic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be David Banks, Bobby Joe Blake, Jackie Palmer, Jonathan Thompson, Jayne Horne, McCarty Anderson, Brady Anderson, Tyler Anderson, and Sgt. Shane Outlaw, US Army. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Fayet, Jimmy Lee Lusk, Lee Brasfield.
Visitation will be from 5 – 7 PM, Tuesday, at the funeral home.
