Smithville – Evelyn Lucille Barnes Forrister, 87, passed away on Thursday, March 5, 2015, at Darlington Oaks Community Hospice. Born on November 9, 1927, in Shannon, she was a daughter of William Riley and Disie Adene Watson Barnes.
She graduated from Shannon High School in 1946. On November 23, 1951, she married the love of her life, John Arnie Forrister. Evelyn worked in the garment industry and was a Seamstress at Smithville Factory. She also worked at Forrister’s grocery for many years. Her close friends at work were Jenilee Gaddy and the late Ruby Vandiver. She loved the Lord and was a Baptist. She attended Old Union Church in Shannon, Doty Chapel, and Smithville Baptist Church. Channel 39 in Fulton, MS was one of her favorite channels to watch on TV. She enjoyed spending time with her family and working in the yard, specifically gardening. Gospel music and country music were her favorite types of music. Above all, her God, Jesus, and family meant the most to her in her lifetime and she was most please with her accomplishment of nurturing her family.
Survivors include her daughter, Glenda Faye Forrister; nephew, Dennis Mitchell; nieces, Krisha Mims and Nancy Swift; special friends, Mollie Bell Moore, Jimmy Young, Wade (Peggy) Weatherbee, Bobbie Jeanne Tubbs, Melvin (Beverly) Kemp, Lavelle Collums, Clytee Mitchell, Judy Stevens, Judy Sims, Ashley Eaton, Sidney Maxey, Frankie Sloan and Jim (Jeanette) Weed.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Betty Mitchell; brothers, Edwin Barnes, Edward Barnes, Glen Barnes; nephew, Sonny Barnes.
A Funeral Service will be held at 3:00 pm, Saturday, March 7, 2015 E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Smithville with Bro. David Highland and Bro. Wes White officiating. Burial will follow in New Hope Cemetery, Hatley. Pallbearers will be Wade Weatherbee, Teddy Williams, Ashley Easton, Sidney Maxey, Gilbert Addington, and Jimmy Young. Honorary Pallbearer will be Dennis Mitchell.
Visitation will be from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm, Friday, March 6, 2015 at EE Pickle Funeral Home, Smithville.
