Evelyn Dobbins Keeton
Wren – Evelyn Dobbins Keeton, 93, passed away on February 25, 2020, at River Place Nursing Center, Amory, Mississippi. Born on March 30, 1926, she was a daughter of the late Marion and Rhoda Box Dobbins.
Evelyn grew up in Alabama and graduated from 9th grade from Kansas High School in Alabama. At the age of 15, on October 11, 1941, she married the love of her life, Bro. John “Curtis” Keeton. They were blessed with three children, many grands and great grands, and 67 years of marriage. She was a member of Providence Baptist church in Amory and was a faithful servant of the Lord Jesus Christ. God and her family were the most important thing to her.
She loved to cook, garden, quilt, reading books, and doing puzzles with her family and friends. In her younger days, she liked to dance and enjoyed Rockabilly. She even danced with Carl Perkins at the Old Fish House when he came to Amory in 1955 for a concert. She also sang in many Radio Shows and she enjoyed singing Gospel with her sister Juanita and her brother-in-law Roland. Some of her closest friends were her sisters Joyce, Ann and Brenda and her daughter Tammy. They would visit with each other almost every day connecting over the phone. About the last 10 years of her life, she lived at Riverplace Nursing Center and enjoyed fellowshipping with staff and other residents.
Evelyn was an amazing woman who had a great intuition. She always knew if her family or friends had issues or needs which they did not vocalize. She always looked beautiful and made her loved ones feel important. The legacy she leaves behind for her family is one of great memories and abundance love. She will be missed by all.
