Olive Branch, MS- Eugene V. Cosby, 78, passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at Tunica Nursing Home in Tunica, MS.
Gene was born Dec. 12, 1935 in Monroe County, the son of Compton V. and Allie O. (Mize) Cosby. He was a Baptist and was saved at Central Grove Baptist Church in Nettleton. He went to school in the Nettleton area until the family moved to Illinois in 1951 where he attended high school. Gene worked a variety of jobs including at a bowling alley as a pin-setter, bottling soda, running printing presses at various print shops, and then was employed by Goodyear until retiring and moving back to TN and most recently lived in Olive Branch MS.
Gene was married to Diana Nichols in 1959 in Waukegan, IL where they settled and started a family. He joined ROTC in high school and later was in the United States Marine Reserves. He enjoyed car racing, especially Nascar, traveling and loved telling stories of his childhood and visiting with family and friends.
He is survived by his daughter, Carrie and his son, Rex Lee Cosby; 3 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; brother Leroy (Frances) Cosby of Lawrence, KS and sister Joyce (Guy) Gold of N Ft. Meyers, FL and several cousins, nephews and nieces.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Laverne and Eddie, brothers Robert and Clarence (Max) and nephew Mark.
Funeral Service will be held at 2pm, Tuesday April 22, 2014 at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home in Amory with Bro. Clyde Mize officiating. Burial will follow in Durrett Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Clyde Mize, Sam Mize and Brian Thomason.
Visitation will prior to the service on Tuesday from 11am until 1:45pm.
