Born on November 5, 1915, in Monroe County, she was a daughter of the late W. M. and Lillie Bell Tubb Phillips.Mrs. Hoots was in the first graduating class of Hatley High School in 1935. She married Lawrence Trice Hoots in 1940. Retiring in 1984, she had worked as a seamstress with Glenn Manufacturing. Mrs. Hoots was a member of Smithville Baptist Church and the Ruth Whitehead Sunday school class. Passionate about her family and keeping in contact with them, she was especially proud of her grandchildren. Preferring to be outside on her porch, Mrs. Hoots enjoyed vegetable gardening, reading, and working crossword puzzles.She is survived by sons, Douglas Hoots (Peggy) and Phil Hoots (Glenda), of Smithville; grandchildren, Renee Vineyard (Steve), Smithville, Van Hoots (Alisha), Amory, Michael Hoots, Memphis, and Clint Hoots (Prissy), Fulton; great-grandchildren, Lindsey Vineyard, Smithville, Cameron Pierce of Amory, Ashton Hoots, Fulton, Emily and Megan Vineyard of Tavares, FL; and her caregiver, Sue Majors.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Trice Hoots; sisters, Azalee Duvall, Retta Lann, Dellie Samples, and Rennie, Verna, Vona and Velma Phillips; and brothers, Carlton, Gurdon, Bill and Sherman Phillips.A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 AM, Monday, October 31 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home with Bro. Mac Phillips and Bro. Wes White officiating. Burial will follow in Hatley Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Van Hoots, Steve Vineyard, Clint Hoots, Michael Hoots, Prentiss Wigginton, Jimmy Phillips. Honorary pallbearers will be her nieces, Eloise Harrison, Dimple Kiser, Francis Faulkner, Nell Justice; and nephews, Glenn Duvall, and Don, Dennis, Mac Phillips; the Staff of Oak Tree Plantation; and the Staff with Community Hospice.Visitation will be from 5 – 8 PM, Sunday at the funeral home.Memorials may be given to Smithville Baptist Church Building Fund, PO Box 72, Smithville, MS 38870 or to a charity of choice.Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at eepicklefuneralhome.com.
