Amory – Ethelene S. Carter, 92, died on Sunday, July 15, 2012, at Gilmore Memorial Regional Medical Center. Born on March 9, 1920, in Amory, she was a daughter of the late Oliver and Clem Hathcock Sullivan.
Mrs. Carter was a graduate of Hatley High School, Class of 1938. On November 23, 1940, she married O. Willard Carter. Before retiring, Mrs. Carter worked as an inspector with Amory Garment. She was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Fun-loving, caring, and always there for her family, Mrs. Carter enjoyed family gatherings, flower gardening, canning, spending time with her sisters, listening to Elvis music, and her daily routine of drinking coffee and visiting with friends at her home.
She is survived by her son, Jerry W. Carter (Carolyn), Amory; grandchildren, Kim Carter Holloway (Scott), David Carter (Jeanie), Natalie Carter Dickerson (Michael), and Rebekah Carter Haire; great-grandchildren, Katie Carter, Ben Carter, Cody Holloway, Brody Dickerson, Colton Sumner, and Makalah Sumner; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Oliver and Clem Hathcock Sullivan; husband, Willard Carter; son, John Keith Carter; sisters, Irene Prestridge, Marie Cornpropst, and Kathleen Hill; and brothers, Leo and Elmo Sullivan.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 AM, Wednesday, July 18 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home with Bro. Ben Loveless and Dr. Allen Simpson officiating. Burial will follow in Haughton Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Richard Hogan, Kenny Hill, Terry Carter, Steve Sullivan, Hal Bourland, and Mike Riley. Honorary pallbearers will be Scotty Carter, Shelby Carter, Leon Carter, and the Staff at River Place.
Visitation will be from 5 – 8 PM, Tuesday at the funeral home.
