Ethel Wigginton, 96, passed away on Friday, May 3, 2024 at Baptist Memorial Hospital, Columbus, Mississippi. She was born February 14, 1928 in Passaic, New Jersey to Peter Stauros and Elizabeth Klepeis.
She graduated from Miami Jackson High School in Miami, Florida. Ethel was married to James Wigginton. She loved the Lord and was a member of Pearce Chapel Freewill Baptist Church in Smithville, Mississippi where she was active in the Ladies Auxiliary. She worked hard as a waitress for twenty-four years.
Ethel was a loving daughter and mother. She would say her greatest accomplishment in life was raising her children. In her free time, she enjoyed listening to country and gospel music, mowing the yard, watching her Miami Dolphin football team, and playing with her dog Bella. She loved talking and laughing with her closest friend, Sis Robinson. Ethel was passionate about the Humane Society.
Such a loving and devoted woman, Ethel will be greatly missed by her family and friends. They know that she is in the presence of the Lord and that gives them peace.
She is survived by one daughter, Dee Thurston, Columbus, Ms; one son, Joe Thompson, Milton, Fl; two grandchildren, James McClanahan and Craig C. Varian; three great-grandchildren Jaci McClanahan, Torie Tartt, and Emma Varian; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Peter Stauros and Elizabeth Klepeis; her husband, James Wigginton; and one sister, Katherine Franey.
A Celebration of Life Service will take place on Sunday May 5, 2024, at 1:00 PM, at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home in Smithville, Mississippi with Bro. John Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Pearce Chapel Cemetery, Smithville, Mississippi with pallbearers being Mark Thurston, Bill Tacker, Jonathan Thompson, Ken Williams, Kenneth Summerford, and James Stevens.
Visitation for family and friends will be Sunday, May 5, 2024, at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home in Smithville, Ms from 12pm until 1pm.
Memorials/donations can be made to the family or Amory Humane Society in memory of Ethel’s love for her dog Bella.
