Estelle Eloise Sullivan

Carolina Community – Estelle Eloise Sullivan, 91, passed away on Friday, November 10, 2016, at Merit Health Gilmore Memorial, Amory. Born on October 12, 1925, in Monroe County, MS, she was a daughter of the late Ira Newton and Nellie Mae Robinson Patterson.

She attended Amory High School and left school to marry James A. Sullivan and they were blessed with three children. They were happily married 58 years before his death. Eloise wanted to complete her education so she received her GED in her mid forties. A lady of strong Christian faith, she was a member of Cason Baptist Church for over 41 years and had been attending Antioch Baptist Church with her daughter.

Mrs. Sullivan cherished Sunday afternoon drives with her husband. Affectionately known as “Mrs. Col. Sanders,” she was very family oriented and enjoyed being with her family, reading biographies, and working with her flowers in her yard. She was active in the Carolina Community Quilting Bee, RCDC, and American Family Association. She was remembered by her family as always being giving, listening and helping and she will be dearly missed by her family and all who knew her.

Survivors include her daughters, Beverly Floyd (Jerry), Nettleton; Brenda Sumrall, Bigbee; and Wanda Thorn, Becker; sister, Rose Patterson, Savannah, GA; 7 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, who was her constant companion throughout the years; brothers, Ira, Robert TR, and Leo Patterson; sister, Quida Snider; sons-in-law, Kenneth Thorn and Harry Sumrall; and great-great-grandchildren, Sarah Thorn and Robert Leland Ray, III.

Her Funeral Service will be at 2 PM, Sunday, November 13, 2016, at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home, Amory, with Bro. Phil Benton officiating. Burial will follow in Masonic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jeremy B. Thorn, Jason N. Thorn, Gary J. Sumrall, Harry Sumrall, Bradley Hamblin, James Andrew Ray, Matthew Hunkapiller, and Chris Guess.
