Amory - Estelle W. Ray, 90, died on Wednesday, July 25, 2012, at Golden Living Center. Born on November 4, 1921, in Tennessee, she was a daughter of the late Walter and Nora Prestridge Worthy.
Mrs. Ray attended Verona Schools. In October 1939, she married Leonard C. Ray. After several years of working as a seamstress at Amory Garment, she retired to be a babysitter. Mrs. Ray was of the Baptist faith. A caregiver, she was well-loved by all of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Ray enjoyed family gatherings where she would cook dinner, quilting, reading, and listening to Gospel music.
She is survived by one special grandson, E. T. “Tommy” Ray (Janice), Amory; one special daughter-in-law, Magaline Ray, Nettleton; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great- great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Maddie Bell Brookman and Ruth Worthy; brothers, Lee Mance Worthy and Fulton Worthy; half-sister, Ozell Duncan; half-brother, Marvin Duncan; and a special son,
Elisha A. Ray.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 9:30 AM, Friday, July 27 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home with Bro. Tommy Whaley officiating. Burial will be in New Chapel Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tommy D. Ray, Thomas Ray, Tony Swan, Jeromiah Staten, Marty Cantrell, Andy Cantrell, and Max Stevens.
Visitation will be from 5 - 8 PM, Thursday at the funeral home.
