Tupelo – Emily Jane McKinney Butler, 85, died on Friday, July 29, 2011, at North MS Medical Center. Born on October 7, 1925, in Amory, she was a daughter of the late Graydon Nicholas and Nancy Isabella Francis McKinney.
Mrs. Butler was a graduate of Amory High School, Class of 1943, and attended Belhaven College. She married William O’Neil “Honey” Butler on March 3, 1946. Moving with her husband’s work, they lived in Arkansas, Illinois, Missouri, Florida, and North Carolina before moving to Tupelo in 1995. Mrs. Butler worked as a courthouse clerk while in Arkansas before becoming a homemaker. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Amory. Mrs. Butler loved to travel with her husband, who was her soulmate and best friend. Very personable and kind-hearted, she loved to read, work crossword puzzles, enjoyed flowers and gardening, and shopping for antiques.
She is survived by her brother, Billy McKinney (Judy), Amory; sisters-in-law, Bobbye Lee Butler West (James E.) and Peggy Meux, both of Aberdeen; and nephews, David McCollum, Dan McKinney, Amory, Bob McKinney, Collierville, and John McKinney, Amory.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband in 2003.
A Stateroom Committal Service will be held at 4 PM, Monday, August 1 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home with Dr. Thomas A. Cheatham officiating. Burial will be in Masonic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dan, Bob, and John McKinney, and James E. West. Honorary pallbearer will be Billy McKinney.
The family will visit with friends following the stateroom service.
