Hatley - Ellie Lee "Lil Pete" Vaughan, III, 63, passed away unexpectedly at his residence on Saturday, August 9, 2014. Born on November 29, 1950, in Amory, he was a son of the Ellie Lee Vaughan, Jr., and the late Gladys Tubb Vaughan.
Pete was a graduate of Hatley High and MSU, with a BS in Education and Coaching. On December 20, 1975, he married Sandra Tipton. A devoted educator for 31 ½ years, Pete taught math and coached basketball at Greenwood Springs and Hatley Schools. He had served as Mayor of Hatley for six years. Pete was a member of Hatley Missionary Baptist Church. A loving and kind husband and daddy, he enjoyed spending time with family, especially his granddaughters; camping; fishing; hunting; a good joke; eating barbecue; collecting model trains; and 60’s and Country music. .
Survivors include his wife of 38 ½ years, Sandra T. Vaughan, Hatley; father, Ellie Lee Vaughan, Jr., Hatley; daughter, Cassie Vaughan & fiancé, David Flippo, Amory; son, Lee Vaughan, Hatley; sister, Cheryl Williams (Rufus), Wyoming; father-in-law, Earl Eugene Tipton, Amory; grandchildren, Haylie & Abigail Chism, Hatley; a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Whitehead.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM, Tuesday, August 12 at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home with Mr. Philip Hathcock officiating. Burial will follow in New Hope Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Van Pearson, Joe Benton, Ronald Taylor, Connie Weaver, Rob and Seth Whitehead, and Lavies Vaughan.
Visitation will be from 5 - 8 PM, Monday at the funeral home.
