Smithville - Ellie Hubert McMillan, II, 59, died Saturday, July 14, 2012 at the UAB Hospital in Birmingham, AL. Born August 15, 1952, he was a son of the late Ellie Hubert, Sr. and Betty Derrick McMillan.
He married Renetta Armstrong in 1974; she survives. A 1970 graduate of Hatley High School, he worked for True Temper Sports for 32 years before becoming disabled. A main of faith, he loved his Lord and Savior and served as a deacon and song leader for the First Free Will Baptist Church in Smithville. An avid Smithville Seminole fan, he was the clock operator for the football and basketball games for many years and also umpired many games. He enjoyed MSU athletics and playing golf. A devoted family man, his greatest enjoyment was spending time with his children and grandchildren and was a host to many exchange students.
A Celebration of Life Service will be 4 p.m. on Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at the E.E. Pickle Funeral Home Chapel in Amory with Bro. Chris Moody and Bro. Reid Wilkerson officiating. Burial will be in the New Hope Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Marlon Summerford, Johnny Gentry, Donald Edge, Thomas Stafford, Daniel Armstrong, and Philip Houston. Honorary pallbearers will be Donnie McMillan, Eddie McMillan, Elvis McMillan, Pat Wood, Johnny Waldo, Josh Armstrong, Luke Houston, and Paul Houston.
Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Renetta Armstrong McMillan of Smithville; 3 daughters, Heather Moody (Chris) of Pontotoc, Briana McMahan (Jeff) of Pleasant View, TN, and Shanna Cole (Harry) of Pontotoc; foster son, Joe Ausbon of Verona; 3 sisters, Carol Wood of Pontotoc, Sue Davenport (Ken) of Amory, and Rose Neal (Frankie) of Pontotoc; 3 brothers, Eddie McMillan of Oxford, Donnie McMillan (Betty) of Pontotoc, and Elvis McMillan (Sarah) of Pontotoc; 9 grandchildren, Whitney, Courtney, and Andrew Moody; Elley and Owen McMahan; and Angel, Kiu, Eli, and Baby Cole; a host of nieces and nephews; and special friends, Olatz Unzalu of Spain and Christopher Dedow of Germany.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be 5 until 8 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home and will continue until service time on Wednesday.
