Nettleton — Brigitte Elizabeth Kirchner Worthey, 80, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 13, 2019, at North Mississippi Medical Center, Tupelo, MS. She was born on September 28, 1938 in Oberschalazen, Germany to Josef Karl and Hedwig Gertrude Razcek Kirchner.
Elizabeth was born in Germany and her father was in the military there. Her father died while fighting in World War I. During the war, Elizabeth’s mother fled Germany in an effort to gather support to save her family. After many years, she was reunited her mother and sister and they moved to the United States. In a military family, she moved around a lot and she graduated from high school in Azores, Portugal. Eventually her family transferred back to the U.S. and she married the love of her life, Johnny Mitchel Worthey on August 14, 1961. They were happily married for 52 years and were blessed with three children whom they raised in the Evergreen Community. She and her husband opened, owned and operated the Evergreen Grocery from 1967 until 1979. Elizabeth then worked for a brief time as a seamstress for Denton Mills. Elizabeth also furthered her education when she graduated from IJC in 1996. She continued to work part-time at the store as a cashier and she also worked as a caregiver for her aging in-laws. A smart business woman, Elizabeth was vocal and had no problem speaking her mind. A well rounded woman, she did everything from running a business to working on the family farm where she cared for goats, sheep, and chickens.
She was a very loving and caring person and God and her family came first in her life. She was a very faithful member of the Evergreen United Methodist Church and she served for several years as the church treasurer. Elizabeth loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren and she enjoyed cooking for her family and friends. She and her friends loved to travel to different places, especailly to Tunica. She enjoyed listening to Gospel and old Country Music with Conway Twitty was one of her favorites. When she had any free time, she liked relaxing and watching American Pickers. She also had a green thumb and could grow anything. A great all around woman, she set a wonderful example for her family of a loving and hard working woman.
The love for her family was a wonderful gift she gave them. Although she will be missed dearly, the memories she gave will be celebrated and remembered forever.
