Elizabeth Eugenia "Betty" Moore

Amory – Elizabeth “Betty” Moore, 81, passed away on Sunday, December 4, 2016, at Sanctuary Hospice House, Tupelo. Born on September 12, 1935, in Memphis, TN, she was a daughter of the late Rev. Kenneth Irby Tucker, Sr., and Gladys Lavelle York Tucker.

Betty graduated from Aberdeen High School with the class of 1953. She attended Duke University and while she was attending an Ice Cream Social at Duke, she met the man of her dreams, Thomas Joseph Moore, Sr. They were married on August 17, 1956, and together they were blessed with three children. For many years, she worked at home taking care of her family. After the death of her husband, she returned to school at IJC and became an LPN and later became a Registered Nurse. She was passionate about caring for her patients. She worked in labor and delivery as well as at a doctor’s office. After her retirement in Texas, she moved several times to different states including Virginia, Ohio, and Mississippi. She was a lifelong Methodist who enjoyed Wednesday night Bible Study classes in Virginia. In the past couple of years she enjoyed visiting First Baptist Church in Amory.

Her family meant the most to her and she loved her husband dearly. Betty was a character who loved to tell stories. She loved reading novels, collecting cook books, shopping, watching QVC, and crocheting baby blankets for her wonderful grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She made the best buttermilk cornbread around. For the past three years, she enjoyed visiting with her friend Dolly who was her close friend and neighbor. The family rejoices that she is at rest and reunited with her husband again.

She is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth Anne Beasley (Mike), Wren, and Jacqueline Renee Martin (Dale), The Colony, TX; son, Thomas Joseph “Joe” Moore, Jr. (Patty), Smithfield, VA; grandchildren, Jennifer (Joe) Frey; Elizabeth (Wesley) Stephens; Thomas (Brandie) Moore, III; Allison (Matt) Yanok; Matthew Moore; Mandi (Robert) Steinke; Jacob (Magan) Beasley; Corey Martin; Byron (Trisha) Martin; Laramie, Trevor and Zachary Martin; 15 great-grandchildren; nieces, Lisa Pennington Martin and Laura Pennington Bassie; close friend, Dolly Holcomb. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas J. Moore, Sr., in 1973; sister, Nell Tucker Pennington; and brother, Kenneth Tucker.
