CHAPEL HILL, NC: Mrs. Elaine Harden Rucker, 94, died Tuesday, October 15, 2013, at her home in Chapel Hill, N.C. She was born in Fulton, Miss., to the late Bertie Clayton and Thomas Daniel Harden. Mrs. Rucker was predeceased by her husband of 41 years, Harold R. Rucker; brothers Delmus Harden, Richard Harden, Lannan Harden, and sister, Sue Miller. Mrs.
Rucker graduated from Amory High School in 1938. She moved to Washington, D.C., and began working for the federal government at the Pentagon, which was still under construction. Her division was transferred to Detroit in 1942. There she met and married her husband, Harold, and they raised their two daughters. She retired in 1980 from the Veterans Administration Regional Office. Following the death of her husband in 1987, she returned to Amory to live. In recent years she lived with each of her daughters and their families, first in Mentor, Ohio, and most recently in Chapel Hill, N.C. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, listening to books on tape, watching her favorite TV shows, and eating ice cream cones. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Amory, Gleaners and Friendship Sunday School Class, and was active in the United Methodist Women’s Group.
Surviving are her daughters, Suzanne Rucker and husband, Cris Eklund; Linda Corbett and husband, Jim; grandchildren, Joshua Corbett, wife, Magen, and great grandson Ethan; Lindsey Owcarz and husband, Patrick; Brika Eklund and husband, Alex Palmer; and sister, Ouida Nylen.
A graveside service will be held at the Masonic Cemetery in Amory, December 7, at 10:00 a.m., weather permitting. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the First United Methodist Church of Amory or a charity special to you would be much appreciated.
