Edith Virginia Thompson Gunter

Sulligent – Edith Virginia Thompson Gunter, 70, passed away on Sunday, July 5, 2015, at Darlington Oaks, Verona. Born on October 6, 1944, in Monroe County, she was the daughter of the late James Carl and Eva Strawbridge Guyton.

Edith attended school in Amory. Edith was blessed with two loving husbands during her lifetime, Junior Thompson and William Thomas Gunter. She entered the workforce early and worked for over 30 years for Amory Garment as an Inspector and Floater who could do any task in the plant. A woman with endless energy, she continued to work as a CNA at the Care Center of Vernon and at Golden Living Center of Amory for almost 10 additional years. She was a faithful member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church and she loved the Lord. She was a supportive mother and loving Grandma and Great-Grandma whose family came first in her life. She was an avid Alabama Football fan. Edith could do anything she set her mind to accomplish. Her favorite music was Country, Gospel, Blues and a variety of other music. In her free time, she liked to fish, camp, garden in her flower beds, travel on quick road trips. Her prize and joy in her garden were her father’s Rose Bush which she nurtured over the years and watched it thrive. She was a modern day “jetsetter” who enjoyed life to the fullest. Her strength, kindness, and loving spirit will be missed by all that knew her.
