Stockbridge, GA- Edith Golden Stockton, 94, died Friday, September 13, 2013 at Piedmont Henry Medical Center in Stockbridge. Born October 14, 1918 in Bear Creek, Al she was a daughter of the late Miles and Mary Sue Bull Golden. She married Joseph Herbert Stockton, Sr., June 24, 1940.
Mrs. Stockton graduated from Red Bay High School and pursued her training in nursing at the Gilmore Sanitarium in Amory, later working in retail in Stockbridge. She was a devout Methodist and previous member of First United Methodist Church, Amory and a current member of First United Methodist Church, Stockbridge. Being widowed the last 34 years, she was very independent and was blessed to be able to take care of herself until the last few days of her life. Very generous, she and her husband were master gardeners and were very generous with their produce. She enjoyed being outdoors fishing, working in her yard, refinishing furniture, keeping up with her family and watching the Atlanta Braves with her grandson.
She is survived by her daughters, Ida Sue Reeves, McDonough, GA, Martha Lucille Thompson, Byhalia and Ann Roney (Richard), Stockbridge, GA; son, Joseph H. Stockton, Jr., Lawrenceville, GA; sister in laws, Virginia and Wilma Golden, Jeannie Stockton, and Eloise Lewis; grandchildren, Sue West, Angie Hardin, Teresa Reeves, Bill Thompson and Philip Hawkins; 6 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death a grandson, Michael Reeves; 2 sisters and 5 brothers.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2pm, Monday, September 16, 2013 at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home in Amory with Rev. Jimmy Criddle officiating. Interment will follow in Masonic Cemetery.
Visitation will be Sunday evening, at the funeral home from 5-7pm.
