Amory – Edgar M. Ratliff, 83, died on Monday, February 11, 2013, at River Place Nursing Center. Born on November 9, 1929, in Memphis, he was a son of the late Audrey and Lela Garrett Ratliff (latter formerly of Aberdeen).
Mr. Ratliff graduated from Bartlett High School in Memphis. He was a veteran of the US Navy. Before retiring, he was an installer and repairer of elevators in the Memphis area for several companies located there. Mr. Ratliff later managed several convenience stores in Florida. He was of the Baptist faith. Very generous and having a big heart, he had the gift of making people laugh. He enjoyed fishing, going to the dog and horse races, and telling jokes. Before moving to Amory, he had lived in Memphis, Las Cruces, NM, St. Petersburg, FL, and Vancouver, WA.
He is survived by three daughters, Sedra of Vancouver, WA, Kathy of Las Vegas, NV, and Kim “Kate” of Las Cruces, NM; three sisters, Lenora Dacus of Wren, Nancy Dacus of Tuscumbia, AL, and Gail Van Winkle of Cherokee, AL; six grandchildren; nieces and nephews, Janet Peaks, Delores Griffin, Kay Dacus, Sherry Taylor, Shilo Barber, Darla Lockhart, David Dacus, Karen Steen, Michelle Overton, Carl Cunningham Jr., and Janet, Tammy, Carla, Billy, Cheryl and Albert Van Winkle; and three stepchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Lorraine; sister, Dorothy Ratliff; nephews, Barry Van Winkle, and Gary and Wayne Dacus; stepson, Mike; and second wife, Charlotte.
A Graveside Service will be held at 11 AM, Friday, February 15 in Pine Grove Cemetery with Bro. Tommy Whaley officiating. Pallbearers will be family and friends. Everyone is asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:30 AM to go in procession to the cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9:30 – 10:30 AM, Friday at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home.
