Olive Branch - World War II Veteran Eddie W. Gregory at 91 years of age quietly and peacefully went to be with his Lord and Savior on November 1st after a short illness. Eddie Ward was born December 10, 1924 in Detroit, AL to Eddie Hay and Cleta Bell Gregory. After the death of his father, his mother, who also preceded him in death, moved Eddie Ward and his brothers and sisters to Amory, MS where he lived most of his life. He was stationed at Pearl Harbor-Hickam Field during WWII.
Eddie Ward began working with Frisco RR while in Amory and then a transfer took him to Memphis, TN. Some years after retiring from Frisco/Burlington Northern RR, he moved to Olive Branch, MS to be nearer his son Eddie, wife Kathleen and only granddaughter, Brooks, who resides in Oxford, MS.
Mourned by his passing is his loving wife of 70 years, Frances Moore Gregory, his sisters Robbie Lee Garner and Mary Helen Ashcraft both of Amory and his brother John Gregory and wife, Marilyn of Carthage, MS. His youngest brother, Ernie Gregory, who preceded him in death in 2015, was a resident of Dade City, FL, along with his wife, Janice. Eddie Ward was a kind and gentle man who loved his family.
Eddie Ward and Frances were long-time members of Bellevue Baptist before moving their membership to First Baptist Church in Olive Branch. Services will be held Saturday, November 5th at Pickle Funeral Home in Amory MS with visitation at 11:00 am and service to follow at noon. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
